About Roseann Rayes Krane 1940 - 2008 After GHS graduation, I attended ASU Tempe and majored in Business Education. I met Walt Krane in our sophomore year at a school dance. We married September 3, 1960 and I completed my BA in January of 1962 and began teaching in the Phoenix area. Walt graduated from ASU in May and we marched together in 1962. Walt had a degree in Construction Management/Civil Engineering. We took jobs in the Los Angeles area in August 1962 living in West LA, Whittier, Temple City, Plecentia, and Valencia for the next 12 years. I taught at several high schools in the area and completed my masters at California State University at Los Angeles in Education (1965) and Business (1966). Here is a photo of me in 1966 when I earned my first MA in Business.
In 1969 I began teaching at College of the Canyons. Our sons, Jason and Tim, were born in 1970 and 1973. The second photo is of Jason and I in 1972. In 1974 we moved to Northern California - living in the Clayton Valley area and then we moved in 1996 to Alamo, where we live now. The first ten years in the San Francisco area I taught at Diablo Valley College. Our lives were devoted to our boys - involved in scouts, swimming, soccer, and baseball. I was quite involved as a volunteer in the community and an officer in several organizations including the state treasurer for the American Association of University Women. In 1980 when the personal computer came on the market I again took more classes in computer programming as I loved working on the pc. In 1983 I started a small computer company where I built computers and developed programs for businesses. In 1984 I took a position teaching at a high school in Danville so I could teach programming. I hired people to help with my business so I could teach full time. I completed my Computer Education degree in 1986 from California State University at East Bay. While teaching at the high school level my students and I developed a program and won the National Smithsonian competition. Then I began writing grants and earned six National Science Foundation grants to study at places like Princeton and Carnegie Mellon. They were great experiences and Walt and I began to see the U.S. Then with my students we won three national ThinkQuest competitions and I went to Switzerland with one of the teams. Then Microsoft tapped me to be an Educational Consultant in the programming area and I added this to my work load for eight years. It was another outstanding and fun experience that kept me traveling around the U.S. where I met many terrific people. While the children were growing our vacations were mostly camping and fishing in California although we did some trips to Hawaii. In 1999 Walt and I took our first vacation overseas to London. We fell in love with world travel and have done it ever since. Iespecially loved Italy, Morocco, and China. You can see some of our trips at www.Krane.Net. Our boys have always been the focus of our lives. Both the boys are successful - Jason is a U.S. certified surveyer and Tim has a watersports company. Jason has two children, Jessica, 14, and Bobby, 8, who we delight in seeing. Today we focus on our children and grandchildren, travel, my jewelry making, and Walt's art work. You can see Walt's art work, some of my jewelry and web work at www.krane.net. Although I retired in 2004, I still do quite a bit of web work and volunteer work. I'm still active in the community and an officer of a number of organizations. If I had my choice, I'd be living in a sunny location by the beach where I could go biking and swimming and relax with a book. We do take our RV out to beach places and travel around the U.S. |
